Technology from Robotic Harvesters: Designed for the Pickers
The ‘Spotlight’ is not a robotic harvester but an advanced tool for human pickers. Rather than attempting to create a fully automated robotic system, MycoSense focused on empowering the picker directly. The technology originally developed for robotic pickers is now available to human pickers in the form of the ‘Spotlight’, enabling them to work faster and more efficiently by supporting their decision-making.
The ‘Spotlight’ uses a color-coded system to help pickers identify mushrooms ready for harvest. Mushrooms that need to be picked are illuminated green, while those that should remain are marked in red. Notably, the colors of the dots are configurable, allowing customers to customize this visual guide to suit their specific operational needs. In addition, customers can create their own Picking Programs to drive specific types of mushroom separation and picking patterns, helping them to achieve their unique harvesting objectives. This added flexibility is key to maximizing the solution’s impact.
Our Contribution for Even Greater Success
We have adapted our lorries and trolleys to work seamlessly with the Spotlight technology. What makes this adaptation so special? The Spotlight uses sensors to detect the number of mushrooms ready for harvest in a given area. When few mushrooms are available for picking, the lorry or trolley speeds up, allowing for more efficient operations. This system ensures that the entire process runs smoothly and that no time is lost during harvesting.
Successful Market Implementations
The Spotlight technology has already proven to be a game-changer for mushroom farms. Since its launch in March 2024, dozens of farms worldwide have adopted the Spotlight, and the results are promising.
Improved Harvest Performance
Data shows that the Spotlight can deliver significant improvements in harvest performance. Low-performing pickers saw a 25% increase in their picking speed, while average-performing pickers achieved a 10% improvement. This demonstrates the effectiveness of the technology in not only boosting productivity but also improving working conditions for pickers.
